Bass Fishing Gear
Check out the BCF’ing range of fishing gear for bass fishing. Australian bass are a very popular freshwater sport fish that make for great bait, fly and artificial lure fishing. They migrate downstream to the estuaries to breed between June and August which is referred to as the closed season for bass fishing. Hand-picked by our BCF’ing experts, this range of bass fishing equipment comes from brands such as Shimano, Daiwa, Jackall, Savage Gear & more.
What habitat do bass live in?
Bass love to hang around structure such as trees, logs, snags, weed beds, rocks and holes. Winter (June, July & August) is closed season for bass. This allows them to head to the brackish salt water and breed. This means all tidal rivers and estuaries that hold bass in QLD and NSW are off limits for fishing, however, impoundments and dams are still open for fishing.
What are the best lures for bass fishing?
Casting small 30-50mm diving lures around structure works well for bass in both dams and estuaries. Lipless crank baits, metal vibes and soft vibes give off a huge vibration and are great for triggering the bite. Other suggested lures include spinner baits, poppers, surface walkers and 3” paddle tail and curly tail soft plastics.
What kind of bait do bass eat?
Fresh earthworms, sand crickets, grasshoppers, freshwater yabbies and shrimp are all good baits for bass. If you're floating a bait on the surface, you only need a basic swivel and hook rig. Use a 60cm-1m fluorocarbon trace and tie that onto your swivel and main line, use a 2/0 circle hook.To find out more on the Best Lures for Catching Australian Bass check out what our BCFing experts recommend!
