Durability That Digs In
InfinityXross gearing delivers more durability than the acclaimed Hagane Gear, especially under extreme pressure, resulting in a longer lifespan when battles go deep. It’s engineered to stay strong and smooth when you’re pushing heavy drag on powerful ocean species.XX-Tough Drag Performance
The efficient, heat-dissipating XX-Tough drag system exerts force from both the top and bottom side of the spool for consistent and controlled pressure. An up-sized drag knob makes quick, precise adjustments easy — even during intense bluewater encounters.Precision Casting Control
InfinityLoop line laying profile reduces line friction when casting for better casting performance and smoother line flow. The unique Anti-Twist Fin suppresses line slack, reducing the chances of the line dropping out or wrapping around the spool while twisted.Sealed Against the Salt
Improved X-Protect and X-Shield sealing provide next-level saltwater exclusion, helping shield the internals from harsh marine punishment. A waterproof seal added to the handle knob delivers extra durability where it matters most.Backed by a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty as a mark of quality, the Stella SWD 4000 XG is the ultimate choice for any saltwater angler who refuses to compromise.
BCF’s got you covered nationwide with a huge network of stores and convenient Click & Collect or home delivery options.

Technology
XX-Tough Drag
XX-Tough Drag gives you the control, toughness and smoothness to handle the big fish. Each washer is made of metal and carbon, with larger diameter drag washers installed on both the top and bottom sides of the spool. It all adds up to a significant boost to durability, and a 30% reduction in drag loss due to heat compared to older models.
InfinityLoop
InfinityLoop technology drastically reduces friction on the line leaving the spool, giving you fantastic casting performance. The internal structure has been updated to allow the spool to move up and down at extremely low speeds - creating a precise winding pattern with less overlap and far less friction as the line leaves your spool during a cast. That gives you better flight distance, casting feel and drag smoothness than ever before.
InfinityXross
InfinityXross technology is built for superior gear durability, with industry-leading design and cutting-edge manufacturing. Shimano has used advancements in gear tooth design to improve the surface contact and meshing between the drive gear and pinion gear - which distributes the load on the gear tooth across a wider area. That stops damage at the stress points and makes it last a lot longer.
Anti-Twist Fin
Anti-Twist Fin is designed to help your line management and stop wind knots, with a flexible polymer fin installed near the line roller. The fin maintains line tension to stop sagging, and stops your line from falling off the bottom of your spool or getting tangled. That means you can stop stressing about your line and focus on your catch.
AR-C Spool
This specially-designed spool ring is designed to reduce line troubles and improve long-distance casting. The AR-C shape improves the spool ring collar, making it less likely for the line to ride on it and reducing the chance of line troubles. It’s also coated with an abrasion-resistant barrier to handle stress under harsh saltwater conditions, keeping it smooth and scratch-free for longer.
X-Shield
X-Shield blocks off all potential water entry points, giving the body and stopper an IPX8 rating for fantastic waterproof performance. The design features sealing structures and gaskets at 12 critical locations throughout the reel, including the body, drag knob and line roller. That gives the reel incredible durability in even the harshest saltwater fishing conditions.
X-Protect
X-Protect delivers great saltwater protection with a new structure that stops corrosion in its tracks without compromising performance. This newly-reviewed structure achieves incredible waterproof performance and lighter rotation at the same time - giving you a great fishing experience without compromising on durability.
X-Rigid Rotor
Tougher rigidity and better rotation balance than ever before. Shimano has built the X-Rigid Rotor using aluminium alloy and detailed 3D analysis for incredible durability. The high rigidity leads to improved functionality for the drag and other parts across the reel.
X-Rigid Handle
This high-rigidity cold-forged handle is specifically designed for the Stella SW to transmit your cranking power without loss.
CI4+ handle knob (except 14000)
The majority of the Stella SW range is equipped with a handle knob made of carbon CI4+ material, which is both lightweight and highly rigid. The 14000 series uses a lightweight hollow oval round knob.
FAQs
Is the Shimano Stella worth it?
Yes. The Stella SWD is Shimano’s premium saltwater reel, offering exceptionally smooth drag, high durability, and precise engineering. It’s ideal for serious fishos targeting large pelagic species and offshore game fish.
Are Shimano Stella reels left or right handed?
Shimano Stella reels are interchangeable — you can switch the handle from left to right hand depending on your preference. This makes them versatile for both left- and right-handed anglers.
What is the difference between Stella SWC and SWD?
The SWC is designed for casting applications, offering high-speed retrieve and smooth performance, while the SWD is optimized for deep-water trolling and heavy drag applications. Both share Shimano’s premium build quality, but the intended fishing style differs.
What species is the Shimano Stella SWD best for?
The SWD is built for serious bluewater, reef, rock and offshore fishing, commonly used for kingfish, tuna and GTs. Its high gear ratio makes it ideal for casting stickbaits and poppers where fast line pickup helps keep pressure on strong, fast-moving fish.
Care Instructions

- Back the drag off after use to protect the drag washers.
- Apply a small drop of reel oil to external moving points (bail/handle pivots) as needed.
- Store in a cool, dry place and book periodic servicing through an authorised service centre.
