How do you clean and service a Shimano Vanford?
After each saltwater session, rinse lightly with fresh water (avoid high-pressure sprays) and let the reel dry. Periodically, remove the spool and clean the drag and bearings as per Shimano’s service guide. Back off the drag before storage to maintain smooth operation.
Is the Shimano Vanford sealed?

Care Instructions
- After saltwater use, gently rinse with fresh water (do not submerge or pressure-wash).
- Wipe dry with a soft cloth and allow to fully air-dry before storing.
- Back the drag off after use to protect the drag washers.
- Apply a small drop of reel oil to external moving points (bail/handle pivots) as needed.
- Store in a cool, dry place and book periodic servicing through an authorised service centre.

You can return or exchange items at any of our 165 BCF store locations. Change-of-mind returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase. After 30 days, returns for faulty items are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Online orders can also be returned by post, with free returns available for items up to 22kg or 105cm through our easy-to-use returns portal. For online orders over 22kg or 105cm, please contact our Customer Care Centre on 1300 880 764 to arrange a courier pickup.
