Few things beat the smell of freshly baked damper around camp. This easy Ozpig Basic Damper recipe uses just a handful of ingredients to create a golden crust and soft, fluffy centre that's perfect served warm with butter, jam or your favourite campfire meal.
Gear
Ingredients
- 4 cups self-raising flour
- 1 cup milk (long life milk is ideal)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 1/2 tsp butter
Method
- Sift together the flour and salt, then rub in the butter.
- Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the milk and water.
- Mix with a knife until the dough comes together. The dough should be sticky to the touch, not dry.
- Sprinkle with a little flour and turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
- Place the dough into a pre-heated 4.5 Quart Camp Oven on a foil-lined trivet or round cake tray.
- Bake in the Ozpig for 35–40 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve warm and enjoy.
If the fire is too hot, remove the camp oven to the side warming plate and top it with hot coals or heat beads. Your damper is cooked if it sounds hollow when tapped!
