Fitting your pack
STEP 1: Loosen it off
Back off the load lifters and shoulder straps so the pack hangs nice and loose—gives you a clean starting point.
STEP 2: Lock in your waist
Clip up and tighten the waist belt around your hips until it’s snug but comfy. This is where most of the weight should sit.
STEP 3: Find the yoke adjuster
Take the pack off and grab the webbing loop between the yoke and pack body—this pulls out the adjuster.
STEP 4: Break the seal
Slide the adjuster in between the yoke and bag to release the hook-and-loop seal.
STEP 5: Fit the torso
Slide the yoke up or down until the shoulder strap seam lines up with your shoulder blade. Once it’s spot on, pull the adjuster back to lock it in.
STEP 6: Tidy it away
Pop the yoke adjuster back into its pocket—it also acts as part of the pack’s frame, so don’t skip this step!

How do I determine which size Skala™ Hiking Pack to get?
There are several things to consider when choosing the right backpack, starting with your trip length. Will it be a day-long excursion, weekend backpacking trip, or a multi-week adventure? This question will help determine how much gear you’ll need to carry. If your trip is short and your gear is minimal, a smaller pack may work. If you’re going on a longer trek and want to bring more gear, bulkier and heavier items, or need a dedicated compartment for a sleeping bag, you should opt for a larger pack as this will require additional space. Next, think about the season and the weather conditions. In the summer, or in warmer climates, you can pack less, while fall and winter trips will call for extra layers and additional gear. Finally, consider your packing style. If you’re comfortable with fewer items, a smaller pack is ideal. If you prefer bringing extra comforts from home and don’t mind the added weight, go for the larger pack.
Is the Skala™ Hiking Pack unisex or are there different fits for men and women?
Each Skala™ Hiking Pack has a different fit for men and women. However, since the men’s size has a more standardised harness, we recommended it as our unisex offering.
How is the women’s size Skala™ Hiking Pack pack specifically made for women?
We designed the women’s Skala™ Hiking Pack based on extensive research and fit studies to ensure it accurately accommodates the female form rather than being a scaled-down version of a men’s pack. The biggest improvement comes in the shoulder harness—we updated the curvature, arc, and length to better match women’s torsos for optimal comfort and stability. In addition, the waist belt comes in two sizes, allowing for a more personalised fit across a wide range of body types. These changes make the pack significantly more ergonomic and supportive.
How do I adjust the harness on the Skala™ Hiking Pack?
To adjust the harness for the best fit and most comfortable carry, start by setting the torso length using the adjustable harness system. Next, tighten the hip belt so it sits snugly on your hip bones, then adjust the shoulder straps to bring the pack closer to your back. Does the Skala™ Hiking Pack’s storage capacity vary by harness size?
No, the storage capacity does not change with the different harness sizes of the Skala™ Hiking Pack. The harness size only affects how the bag fits your body, not how much gear it holds. For example, if you choose a size Small in a 50 litre pack and your friend chooses a size Large in the same 50 litre pack, both packs will have the same 50 liter capacity, they will just be adjusted differently for each individual fit.

You can return items at any of our 165 BCF store locations. Change-of-mind returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase. After 30 days, returns for faulty items are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Online orders can also be returned by post, with free returns available for items up to 22kg or 105cm through our easy-to-use returns portal. For online orders over 22kg or 105cm, please contact our Customer Care Centre on 1300 880 764 to arrange a courier pickup.
