What are the benefits of having a petrol motor?
Being able to get out on the water with your own craft and motor takes things to the next level. Whether you prefer to take in the picturesque scenery as you slowly cruise along milling away the hours or pack a few fishing rods to try and catch yourself a fresh feed of fish, having an outboard on the back of your watercraft provides unlimited adventure. Petrol outboard motors also make it easier to carry multiple people on-board and assist in covering great distances in minimal time.
How do i flush a petrol motor?
In order to keep your motor running at its best for many years to come, we recommend that you flush your motor with a set of “earmuff” style flushing accessories after exposure to saltwater. The reason why this is so important is to prevent corrosion and the gathering of salt crystals that can damage the water pump impeller. Here are some quick steps:
- Use the ear muffs to attach to a water hose and cover the motors water intake vents.
- After starting the motor, allow it to run at idle speed for approximately 5 minutes.
- Check the tell tail is spraying out water, this tells you it has a good water supply coming from the earmuffs and there are no blockages.
- Rinse all extremities of the motor with fresh, flowing water including cowling rubber seals.
- Then use some form of a clean towel to remove all foreign dirt and debris.
Remember that starting your outboard without an appropriate water source can result in severe damage from overheating to your motor. It is also beneficial to perform regular wipe downs to keep everything in tip-top condition.
