Ralphy’s Steak, Cheese, and Onion Pizza
Ingredients:
Pre-made fresh pizza dough (the supermarket packs are gold when you’re out bush)
1 steak (your choice of cut – just make sure it’s a good one)
2 onions, thinly sliced
Butter (don’t be shy)
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
Chopped fresh tomato (or tinned if you’re out the back of nowhere)
BBQ sauce (Lane’s Lil Spicy is an absolute ripper)
Can’t forget the salt & pepper
Method:
-
Fire up the Ozpig – Use small sticks to build a really hot fire. If you’re looking for a crispy base, you’ll need to really bring the heat.
-
Cook the steak – Grill on the Ozpig Big Pig plate until done to your liking. Rest, before slicing into smaller bite-size pieces.
-
Caramelise the onions – Add butter and onions to a pan and allow them to cook low and slow – until golden brown. Then stir in sugar and a dash of balsamic vinegar before setting it aside.
-
Assemble the pizza – On your dough, spread chopped tomato, add caramelised onions, sprinkle mozzarella (keep it away from the very edge), then top with steak.
-
Cook in the Ozpig pizza rack – Slide onto the hot pizza stone and cook for around 10 minutes, or until base is crispy and toppings are bubbling.
-
Finish with BBQ sauce – Drizzle over the top before serving – for a nice BBQ kick.
Badger’s S’mores Dessert Pizza
Ingredients:
Pre-made pizza base
Marshmallows - enough to cover your base
Favourite choccy biscuits chopped into small pieces – can’t go past a Tim Tam!
Method:
-
Assemble – Place marshmallows and Tim Tam pieces evenly over the pizza base.
-
Cook in the Ozpig – Pop onto the pizza stone and position close to the top for an even toast on the marshmallows.
-
Watch closely – This isn’t cooking so much as melting and crisping – a few minutes is all you need.
-
Serve immediately – Gooey, chocolatey, and crisp like a giant cookie.
So there you have it, two completely different takes on the Italian classic – with a taste of down under thrown in for good measure. There could only be one winner and the decision was a toughy. In the end our mate Harry said the smore’s pizza definitely earned points for originality and nailing the campsite vibe, but the steak, cheese and onion pizza and its crispy base walked away with the W.
