If you enjoy taking a break from your routine work, heading out for a night (or 12) of camping, Lake Leschenaultia is a scenic reservoir and a great place to start the kids kayaking on still water or for a romantic picnic and walk through the nature trails. Nanga Mill in Dwellingup is another beautiful area but very cold for most of the year so be sure to dress warm in our range of thermals or insulated jackets from Macpac, Quiksilver Waterman and Under Armour.

To pair camping with fishing, White Hills has several 4x4 options nearby and great fishing spots from the beach (our BCF’ing experts suggest packing for salmon and tailor fishing). Moore River is popular for bushwalking trails lined with wildflowers as well paddling or fishing in the river itself, though we recommend taking along some insect repellent. Alternatively, you can head down to Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camp, a quiet spot on the river that’s still close to the city.

When you want to wet a line, Burswood Foreshore is great for bream, flathead, whiting and grunter. Our BCF’ing experts recommend equipping yourself with a 2-4kg rod, 2500 size reel and a 6-10lb braid line with 6-10lb fluorocarbon leader. Daiwa Double Clutches and Z-Man Grubz are popular lures for these species. At North Mole, you’ll want to come prepared with some heavier cargo. A 6-10kg rod, 4000 size reel and 12-20lb monofilament with Smiling Jacks and Halco Twisties or Roosta Popper’s are sure to help you land the local herring, tailor or salmon.
