When it comes to targeting bream, flathead and trevally in the estuaries and close off-shore reefs, the Tackle Tactics Barra Jack is one jig head that every true-blue soft plastic angler should have very close by. The sink rate of the jig head can be varied by either putting on a smaller slim profile, or a shad-shaped soft plastic when targeting fish in bays and rivers that don’t have much tidal movement.
When fishing directly on the bottom, they can be ripped off the bottom or gently hopped. Most of the takes will be when the lure is slowly falling through the water, so be ready for that strike or soft touch.
One trick is to keep an eye on the line as it is moving across the surface of the water. The take may be as small and as subtle as a tick in the line, so be ready. The heavy wire will give you more holding power than the light wire jig heads. Check out the difference.
