If you're catching big fish from the beach, or the boat, and need a reel that's strong enough to handle anything you can throw at it, then the Alvey 650C5 is the ideal choice.
This reel has a great line capacity and excellent casting distance, so it's great for reaching fish behind sand bars. There's a fish alert system which will tell you of bites if you leave the rod unattended, star nuts to apply extra tension to the spool, and stainles- bush for smooth running.
The 650C5 is excellent when you're fishing for salmon, tailor or mackerel from the land or offshore, and importantly, there's nothing to go wrong, or break in rough weather or big fights.
With the Alvey 650C5, you'll keep your reel in one piece, and the fish on the end of your line.

Have had this Alvey for the last 6 or more years and have caught some monsters on it! Its never failed me and is a great reel for casting slugs from the Southport Sea Way... Its well suited to the Alvey Light Surf Custom rod and with a large stripper guide there is an ability to cast well past the walls breakers out to the working fish.

Inside is very simple, and a clean out every few months to remove sand and salt build up will see the reel be passed down to your children and so on. I have drilled a 2mm hole at the bottom of the backing plate to let water out from the cupped stainless steel backing, so sand and salt water can self drain itself.

One downside is that, is that you should not rest the reels spool on a rock as it will become rough and will affect the lines life. However it can be fixed slightly with some super fine sandpaper and some automotive car polish.

Other than that, the reel is super solid, the drag is fantastic, the reel is not affected by sand or salt even if its not washed for a week or more when on that long trip to Fraser Is and parts are cheap and readily available and interchangeable!

Well done Alvey!!
