(Click here for BCF TV Episode)
Over the years improvements in camp furniture have made it more affordable, durable, comfortable and practical. There are now a wide range of camp furniture options available that are designed to improve our camping experience, such as gazebos for shade and shelter, ensuites for privacy, camp kitchens to give us an area to prepare meals and camp cupboards so we can safely store and easily organise our food, clothes and other camping gear.
Let’s have a look at some of the camp furniture options available, some of the features that might be important and a range of applications where these furniture options may improve our experience.
Chairs
Chairs come in a wide range of styles, sizes and weight ratings and are one of the most frequently used items of camp furniture in our campsite so it’s important to take the time to sit in a few and select one that is comfortable and meets our needs. Many campers who eat their meals at a table often have a more upright chair for eating their meals and a second chair for relaxing around the fire or sitting back admiring the view.
Some features that may be important include, the size and weight of the unit, weight capacity, side table, storage, drink holder, cooler bag, cushioning and pillow, foot rest, adjustable positions and how easy it is to fold up.
Tables Tables designed for camping have become more practical, lighter and sturdier and one of the most frustrating things is not having enough table space when camping. Somewhere to eat, prepare meals, wash up, play cards and setup items such as stoves and water containers.
.
Features that may be important include set up and pack up size, weight, height, construction, ease of erection and any extras such as drink holders, storage cupboards underneath or chairs included.
Camp CupboardsGone are the days of digging through bags to find clothes and crates to find food, a pack of cards or a headlamp. Camp cupboards allow us to keep items safe, well organised and quick and easy to locate.
There are a range of sizes available and features include aluminium tubular frames to make them sturdy and lightweight, multiple shelves to provide plenty of storage space and additional side storage pockets. They are relatively simple to set up and are ideal for extended stays.
A new addition to the BCF camp cupboard range is the Wanderer Easy Out Camp Cupboard that concertinas open and clips at the top, setting up in seconds. Check it out in action on the BCF website at BCF TV / Camping / Gear.
Camp Kitchens Camp kitchens can be as basic as a folding table with an area for a stove and sink, or can include lantern hanger, storage, utensil holders, sink, stove stand and a range of other features.
They provide a workstation for the preparation of meals and washing of dishes and over time they have become much more compact, lightweight and user friendly.
Features that may be important include size when set up and packed up, weight, height, construction, ease of erection and the range of available features.
Ensuites Ensuites are designed for use as a toilet / shower tent or change room and provide the user with privacy.
They are available in single and double and come in a pop up unit or a unit supported by poles. The pop up units are becoming more popular because they are quick and easy to erect. Features include removable roof for use with a solar shower, removable floor, storage for toiletries, hook for a light and mesh windows.

Foam Floor Mats Foam floor mats have a multitude of applications including flooring for tents, annexes, ensuites and gazebos. They are also effective as door mats for tents to keep some of the dirt and sand out.
Other uses include padding under iceboxes in vehicles and boats and they also make ideal padding for protecting loads when travelling.
Foam floor mats can also be used along the edge of shade cloth floors, tarp floors and over the top of leads to minimise tripping hazards.
Camp ClotheslineCamp clotheslines are a handy piece of equipment as you may not have anywhere to string a rope clothesline and in many national parks you are no longer allowed to tie to trees.
Camp clotheslines feature sturdy aluminium construction, are compact when folded and capable of holding a reasonable amount of laundry.
Set them up out in the sun to dry your clothes quickly, but if the weather turns bad they are compact enough to move in undercover and get that laundry dry.
GazebosGazebos are an ideal portable shelter for boating, camping and fishing, but are also popular for parties, BBQs in the park and for market stalls. They protect you and your camp from the sun and weather and have become one of the most popular camp furniture options available.
There is a range of models available and features that may be important include size, height, ease of erection, construction and materials.
Screen and solid side panel kits are available for some models to provide additional shade, weather protection and protection from insects.
